Ludovico Braille had gone blind at a very young age and was dissatisfied because the reading system used by the blind was cumbersome, with large characters. So he set out to create a new, specialized alphabet for the blind. It took him five years, but in the end he succeeded. The alphabet Braille created was a replacement for the standard alphabet, consisting of raised dots that, through various combinations, convey a text. With this system, a blind person can read by feeling the dots with their finger\u2014in other words, reading by touch. The Braille system consists of six raised dots, shaped like the head of a pin. They are arranged in groups of three, creating 63 combinations that correspond to letters and numbers. Braille is read from left to right and from top to bottom, just like the writing used by \u201csighted\u201d people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
